Resurgence of AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

Recrudescence du sida en Europe de l'Est et en Asie centrale
The monitoring data published by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) showed that 142,197 people had HIV infection diagnosed in 2014, according to a recent study published in BMJ.
The epidemic continues to progress rapidly in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The injecting drug users (IDUs) still account for 45% of new cases. * The figures reveal an increasing heterosexual transmission. Homosexual men are certainly under-represented in these statistics because of taboos that strike, as is the case with the prostitute (e) s.
In this region, it is estimated that about 1.4 million people infected with the AIDS virus. 85-90% of them are in Russia and Ukraine, where the proportion of infected people is around 1%. However, these figures are incomplete. Indeed, countries like Uzbekistan do not provide statistics, while Turkmenistan "announcement" having "zero AIDS cases."
Overall, the transmission of the virus from mother to child has largely decreased. In this area, Russia has made significant progress, with past rate of 19% in 2000 to 6.2% in 2007, according to the government. But increasing the number of adult women with HIV may be problematic in the future.
Access to antiretroviral treatment is still unsatisfactory
It is estimated that a quarter of people living with HIV are treated to the whole region, about 350,000
