The "divine hand" avenge the execution of the Saudi Shi'a cleric Nimr Baqir al-Nimr said Sunday Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"Undoubtedly, the blood of this martyr unjustly paid will bear fruit and the divine hand of vengeance the Saudi leadership," said Ayatollah Khamenei, in a speech before religious, reported its official website.
"It has neither oppressed scientist encouraged people to take up arms or conspired in secret, he only wore openly critical," said Khamenei.
"God does not forgive the shed blood of the innocent," he stressed.
Iran has strongly condemned the execution of the Saudi cleric and said Riyadh would pay a "high price" for this act.
Saturday night, protesters attacked and burned the embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran and the Saudi consulate in Mashhad.
They threw Molotov cocktails against the embassy and were able to get inside the diplomatic compound before being evacuated by the police.
"The fire destroyed the interior of the embassy," said a witness told AFP on site. "The police is omnipresent and dispersed the protesters, some of whom were arrested," he added.
Sunday morning, Tehran's prosecutor announced the arrest of 40 demonstrators.
"So far, 40 people that are introduced inside the embassy were identified and arrested. The investigation is ongoing to identify others responsible for this incident," said the prosecutor, Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi city by the ISNA news agency.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Jaber Ansari, asked Saturday night at the police protect diplomatic representations of Saudi Arabia, "while condemning again the unjust execution of Nimr al-Nimr."
